October 3rd – Catching Up

Black Pearl was made on Sunday with Black Pearl Celestial Seasonings Tea, colloidal oatmeal, almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, coconut milk, activated charcoal for the black in the swirl, and fragranced with a blend of Queen of the Nile FO and lime EO.  Mmmmmmm, so exotic and smooth.  The trimmings made a stupendous lather that’s rich, thick, and lasting.  The fragrance is edging toward decadent without overdoing it.

The FO, and I’m only guessing here, might have caused the yellowish colour that occurred while mixing the lye and oils together.  They went caramel then turned yellow.  Once they were removed the next day, the soap, while still a bit too soft to slice, started lightening up slightly.  Now that the slices have been done and set on the Baker’s Rack to dry out, have started lightening up further, now at a very, VERY pale yellow, almost a heavy cream colour.  Nice, but I’d originally envisioned white, snowy white with a black swirl.  But as soapmakers we are aware that often our best laid plans can go awry.  I’ll keep watching this one to see if it changes further and maybe ends up white, though honestly, it doesn’t really matter since this colour works for me just fine.

And today’s project is tangy sweet and making my mouth water!  This one is made with Celestial Seasonings Jammin’ Lemon Ginger Tea, colloidal oatmeal, olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, coconut milk, Camu Camu Fruit Powder (NG), Lemon Peel Powder (NG), yellow mica colour (WSP), then sprinkled at the peaks with iridescent glitter (Bramble Berry) and a light scattering of sugar crystals I found in a grocery store nearby over the tops.  The peaks turned out exactly like I’d wanted them to look and the glitter really sets off the tops and the colour beneath!  Love how this one turned out.  Couldn’t have planned it as nicely as this if I’d tried a dozen times over.  This is an all-the-way-through colour, though, so sorry all you swirl fans.  No thrills here.  Just wall-to-wall yellow.   Cut pics will follow this weekend most likely unless it sets up quicker than the others.

Have a great day everyone!
